HeatSmart FLX South Community Kick-Off

  • Tuesday, May 18, 2021, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Want to know more about how to save money on heating and cooling? Residents of Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, and Yates counties can learn about energy-efficient heating and cooling options and have a chance to win a prize. On May 18th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, HeatSmart FLX South is holding a Community Virtual Event – “Kick-Off Into Summer and Get Pumped!” to launch their program.

Pre-register at https://bit.ly/kickoff-event or call 607-535-7161 x3223.

“Come to the virtual event and meet our contractor partners,” said HeatSmart FLX South Campaign Director Erica Herman. “We want to see more people get ‘pumped’ about the benefits of heat pumps for their clean heating and cooling needs.” During the event, attendees will meet HeatSmart teammates, find out who’s partnering in the community and which neighbors have heat pumps and/or weatherization installations in their homes or small businesses. A 30-minute meet and greet with the contractor partners will follow the presentation.

The event will take place virtually via Zoom and Facebook Live. Every person who attends and fills out a survey will be included in a prize drawing. Ten plus prizes will be awarded – local wine tastings thanks to generous donations from wineries in our 4-county region.

NYSERDA President and CEO Doreen M. Harris said, “Not only are heat pumps a critically important piece of our nation-leading climate agenda, customers will find they are quieter, longer lasting, highly energy efficient and easier to clean and maintain than traditional fossil fuel systems. We applaud the work of HeatSmart FLX South, congratulate them on their campaign’s launch, and look forward to our continued partnership helping customers access clean heating and cooling solutions.”

The mission of HeatSmart FLX South is to provide equitable access to weatherization and energy efficiency upgrades, with the goal of households and small businesses adopting heat pump heating and cooling equipment to lower energy cost burdens for consumers and greenhouse gas emissions in our communities. HeatSmart FLX South is a new program based at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County, serving residents, small businesses, and non-profits in Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, and Yates Counties, in cooperation with their local Extension associations. We have been designated a Clean Heating and Cooling Community under the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA). Additional information can be found on the website www.heatsmartflxsouth.org.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has awarded over $9 million to support over 20 HeatSmart Community Campaigns throughout the state which conduct community outreach and education efforts to inform residents about the benefits of heat pumps, home energy efficiency improvements and other clean energy technologies.
