The vision behind the Southern Tier Women's Financial Conference is to gather a diverse group of women to not just learn, but to share their financial and life experiences. This one-day conference was established because there is a need to empower and educate women in our area about financial matters. Statistically women are a powerful financial force! Many women serve as chief financial officers of their households and we want to make sure these women are prepared for this position. Professional women are invited to lead the conference on a broad array of financial issues, such as budgeting, credit, investing, retirement, social security and identity theft.
In addition to the educational sessions, the conference provides exhibitors demonstrating health and nutrition products. Networking during lunch and breaks encourages women to share concerns and issues. Valuable takeaways from the event include materials, current publications and door prizes. This conference has been held twice and because of overwhelming response, we want to make it an annual event where a variety of new topics are introduced.
The Southern Tier Women's Financial Conference is open to women of any age or economic status who manage their financial futures. The one-day annual event begins with a social breakfast, followed by speakers covering an array of financial topics such as credit, budgeting, record retention, investing, retirement, social security, and health issues such as stress management. A networking lunch and exhibitor venue allow the women to feel supported by their peers and local businesses. The conference fees includes a topic related book, a packet of materials to take home, lunch and all the sessions.
The first conference was held in 2014 at THE CENTER in Corning, NY. It fulfilled a dream of Amy Irvine, local financial planner, who saw the need to empower and educate women in our area about financial matters. Collaborating with Cornell Cooperative Extension and ServU Credit Union, the conference nearly filled the room with women ranging from college age to seniors. Feedback indicated they wanted to share their experience with other women and wanted additional sessions and topics. A second conference followed in 2015 and again was extremely successful and has led to expansion of the conference as an annual event.
