Friend of 4-H Awards

The Annual Steuben County Friend of 4-H Award recipients were selected from a list of nominees throughout Steuben County and are presented to an individual and a business who have excelled in their dedication to the Steuben County 4-H Youth Development program through the years and have earned the respect of 4-H members, families and leaders, as well as the community.

Friend of 4-H Individual

This year’s award is to recognize and honor long-time major supporters of the Steuben County 4-H Program. Guy’s impact on the local livestock community and specifically 4-H families is hard to express in words. He’s greatly admired for his breadth of knowledge, but also for his enormous generosity. For many years he offered his years of experience and expertise to 4-H families for low to no cost, happy to support youth in pursuit of their passions in various animal science projects. Additionally, he provided leadership and guidance on the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben’s Board of Directors and continued to support CCE Steuben and the 4-H Program through his time as a County Legislator. Jennifer has also been a strong supporter of the 4-H Program and advocate for local youth. She has been an active member on the Livestock Advisory and Sale Committees in years past, helping the success of both programs, even after their children had aged out of the 4-H Program. Even as they grieve their loss, the family’s generosity persists as they’ve established a memorial scholarship in honor of Guy to continue his legacy of supporting youth in pursuit of their passions. It is with very humble gratitude on behalf of the 4-H Program and the hundreds of 4-H families that have been impacted by the immense generosity of Guy and Jennifer that we award this year’s Friend of 4-H Award to:

Hammond Family

Friend of 4-H Business

4-H would like to recognize a local organization for their generous use of their amazing facility. With access to their “village”, 4-H youth have had the opportunity to learn and experience new things while developing their sportsmanship and leadership skills. Club members go above and beyond to help where they can, whether it’s showing 4-H volunteers how to run equipment or volunteering their time to make sure things run smoothly for us. With the help and support from this group, the 4-H shooting Sports has had the opportunity to grow and strengthen as a program. This year’s recipient is:

Bath Rod & Gun Club

Behind the Scenes

This award is presented to a deserving 4-H member that has done a lot of work “Behind the Scenes” and may not have received recognition. This is not only for work done at the County Fair but throughout the 4-H project year. This year’s recipient has been working “behind the scenes” in the sheep programs helping with showing and showmanship clinics, helping new members prepare for fair, and even donated several sheep to fellow 4-H members throughout the year. Receiving the award this year is:

Trinity Daley

I Dare You” Leadership Award

William Danforth was a successful businessman who dared young people to achieve their highest potential to influence others through lives of leadership and service. As a civic leader, he helped found the American Youth Foundation in 1925. The belief then as it is today is that each individual can make a difference. He was delighted to see talents developed and potential fulfilled. His challenge to all was to “be your own self and at your very best all of the time”. The “I Dare You” Leadership Award recognizes those who, with little encouragement, are ready to see themselves as leaders. We hope that the 4-H program instills this same challenge to 4-H members. This award is presented to:

Korbin Herrington - Independent

Outstanding 4-H’er Award
Each year, youth are recognized as Outstanding 4-H Members. This year’s award recipient has embodied the 4-H motto “To Make the Best Better” through clearer thinking, greater loyalty, larger service and better living as they have grown in the 4-H program. This year’s award is presented to:

Korbin Herrington - Independent
