Any youth 8-18 years old as of January 1, 2020 interested in learning how to build and program a robot to perform various tasks using a Lego Mindstorms EV3 is welcome to become a 4-H member to be eligible to participate in the Steuben County Robotics Program.
4-H members will also have the opportunity to participate in the 2020 NYS 4-H Robotics Challenge at the NYS Fair. The NYS 4-H Robotics Challenge gives youth the opportunity to work with others to build and program a robot and demonstrate what they have learned in a friendly competitive event. To be successful youth will need to work as a team, use problem-solving skills (there is no one right way to solve the tasks) and have fun. This challenge gives participants the opportunity to work with others to build and program a robot and demonstrate what they have learned in a friendly competitive event. Teams also participate in a group interview with the judges. During this part of the challenge, teams share their knowledge of understanding the concepts of the selected theme for the contest which will be announced in late spring/early summer. Participants will be asked to reflect on their mechanical and program designs and the team’s strategies. They will also be evaluated on their presentation skills.
